Ron Sexsmith!

Eeeeee!

That is the sound of a Ron Sexsmith fan getting word that she'll get a chance to play a set supporting Ron, in Peterborough this April 30th.

I'll be doing a "lounge" set right before/during the intermission at the show--not technically opening, but I'll be there, and that's good enough for me.

Taking ten deep breaths,

Kaya

Ch-ch-ch-changes: minitour adjustments

Hey so, some slight changes to the minitour plans. I will be playing at the Cornerstone in Guelph on Sunday, Feb. 10th, instead of the 3rd. Hope you Guelph-area friends can still make that!

Also, the Black Sheep Inn date will now be on Sunday, Feb. 3, as I've been asked to open for the delightful Justin Rutledge that night. I'm sad that I won't get to meet the Darling DeMaes, but there's always another time! Hope you locals can make it out to see me and Justin tear it up country-style in Wakefield.

The Toronto and Montreal dates are still the same though: Jan. 31 and Feb. 2, respectively.

See you on the road!

Love,

K.

Review of T&S in the Montreal Gazette

Here she is--thanks to T'Cha Dunlevy, who clearly knows what he's talking about :)

Tremor and Slip

Here's a great example of a diamond in the rough, and not so rough at that. Former Montrealer Kaya Fraser -- now living in London, Ont., and pursuing a PhD in Canadian literature -- has put out this seven-song EP independently and it is very, very good. Her voice is mature and seductive, and these rootsy gems are yearning to be heard. Elements of country, soul, and sultry acoustic pop are combined with sophistication and polish. Fraser's moving songs don't really need anything more, except to be discovered. [Four stars]" -T'Cha Dunlevy

On Being Lucky, Or, I Love My Band

No particular news to report at the moment, but I felt the need to blog about how damn excited I am for the January 26th show at the LMC. Why, you ask? Well, after rehearsing with the band last night, I realized with a rush of joy and humility that I am lucky enough to be playing with some of the best musicians in this fine city, and really, some of the best musicians I have ever known. They are: Jonathan Davis, master of the drums; Jason Hakin, whose guitar playing causes a feeling somewhere between elation and despair in a strummer like me; and Chris Ingram, who is musicality through and through, whether he's playing delicate classical guitar or (as he is for me) bitchin' upright bass. What a glorious sound they make out of my little songs.

Hope you can come out to hear it.

Love,

Kaya

Gigs!

Gigs!

Well, I've had a pleasant day. I tidied up the apartment, baked a berry crumble while I listened to some lovely music (Scott Cooper, I'm looking in your direction)--AND I booked some fun new gigs.

First off, I'm going to be playing live on CIUT (U of Toronto's awesome radio station) on Jan. 31, the morning before my gig at Free Times Cafe. The show is called Take 5, and it should be way fun! If you can, tune on in. It's 89.5 FM in the Toronto area, or listen on the innanets: http://www.ciut.fm/listenlive.php

Second, I booked a show at the lovely Casa del Popolo in Montreal on May 11. My birthday is the 9th, and the 11th is Mother's Day, so I think this all adds up to a sweet, family-and-friends jamboree. Friends I haven't met yet are more than welcome, too! Can't wait--I miss Montreal so much, and love love love going back there to play.

Looks like it's going to be a busy 2008! Yay!

Love,

Kaya

NYC Dates Confirmed!

Hey all, checkitout... Thanks to the good people at the Sidewalk Cafe in NYC, I have two appearances booked for late February/early March. This, incidentally, is apparently when the venue is hosting a festival of cool anti-folk music, so it's a good time to come on down to the East Village to catch some tunes!

The March 2 date you see on my calendar is the full set I'm playing, but I'll also be playing a couple of tunes at the ever-well-attended Antihoot Open Mic on Monday, February 25. Why not come to that one too? You never know who will show up...

Can't wait can't wait can't wait!

Love,

K.
